I suspect that is an install error similar to Vista. Under XP and earlier the Terminal was installed into C:\Program Files\LCARS Terminal.... but the new OS needed to take out the Program Files part of that to work properly.

A guide to a Windows 7 or Vista Install.  Reply with quote

A guide to a Windows 7 or Vista Install.

Much like mmorpg's like WoW have discovered there is a section of a Win 7 / Win Vista computer that you can install a program and make it function much like it did before in Win XP firstly when installing the program it is best to change the install directory to

C:/users/public

This area of the OS is outside the constraints of needing admin privlages to run, so you don't have to grant the program special privlages

Secondly with the changes in the task bar and start buttons it has been annoying to use the shell and still see that pesky round circle that has the windows logo Laughing.

In Vista:

If you right click on a blank section of the task bar and select properties it will load the taskbar/star menu properties. With Vista it is a simple matter of unchecking the box that says "keep always on top" this will allow you to have programs run on top of the task bar when it is running with out having to put on auto hide which can be annoying when it pops up by mistake.

In 7 its just a tad... a tad mind you more difficult

firstly you need to download this program here http://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/customization/50568d1264657529-disabletaskbarontop-disable-taskbar-always-top-disabletaskbarontop.zip

after doing so you need to determine which version of 7 you are running 32bit or 64 bit once determined choose the apropreate version of the disable always on top program and place it in your start up groups folder. Note: if you do not do this you will have to run the program every time you want to start the LCARS Terminal, this program does not in any way change the functionality of the Win 7 Start Menu or Taskbar so it is safe to place in your start up folder and run it automatically every time.

after you have done either step for the OS you are using you will the button is still on top of the program the only thing you need do at this point is to click the LCARS start button and the Windows version will then be moved behind and become hidden.

I know there is a compability issue between win 7 and programs designed to work on the older version of the MS Agent program. I have yet to test the useage of Voice commands and the win 7 OS but there is a Microsoft released work around for win 7 and MS Agent programs located here http://www.microsoft.com/products/MsAgent/main.aspx

If I find other work arounds or if you know of any I missed this thread will be updated accoringly

I have asked Piet to consider making a new installation file for the Terminal to adjust the default location used so that users of Vista and Win7 won't have to manually adjust their destination. Future XP users would likely go to the new location without fault too. If he does I promised to zip up some new science packs also sharing the same default location. It will be good to hear what others say about the location C:\users\public to see if that is the best location of it we can find something more suitable. This debate will certainly affect the Terminal and future users.

That is a new solution, I hadn't thought of that.
We were aware of an installtion issue that is addressed on here (I am merging this thread into that one) but the ADMIN has not yet taken the steps to correct that.
